Genesis

Yoga is widely considered an 'immortal cultural outcome' of the Indus Saraswati Valley civilization, and it was in India that the Yogic system found its origin and expression. Yoga, as one of the 'Shad Darshanas' (six systems of Indian philosophies), is deeply rooted in the Vedas and is a scientific endeavor toward human growth and excellence. Different Indian philosophies, traditions, lineages, and Guru-shishya parampara of Yoga have led to the emergence of various traditional schools. Because of Yoga's rich and ancient history, Yoga has also now been inscribed as an element in UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of humanity.

On mining deep into the fundamental facts about current day Science and Technology, the links with the ancient knowledge are established; thus, the demand for restoring the Ancient Traditional knowledge across the globe has geared up, and Yoga is among them. Recently, substantial growth in research addressing the impact of Yoga on health and wellbeing has been seen. In the past few years, scientists have gained significant evidence of the broad-ranging effects of Yoga both as a treatment and as a preventive form of health care with definitive results.

The proposed dedicated Inter-University center for yogic sciences (IUCYS) will provide advanced facilities in all walks of yoga science at the global level, thus working towards advanced research that gives us an insight into the health benefits of Yoga for the mind and the body.
